Welcome!

Dear Students,

Welcome to the class blog for FS 101 Stories of Self & Place and FS-ARTEN 201 Community Engagement & Public Art!

Through this class we will gather stories of Conneaut Lake, a rural community west of Meadville. We’ll tour the Historical Society Museum, take a boat tour of the lake, and walk through Conneaut Lake Park. We’ll work with community organizer David Hunt and Conneaut Lake Middle School teachers on a community story-sharing event. We’ll interview Conneaut Lake residents, and spend time conducting observations in town. Through this immersion, we’ll understand how a community comes to matter, how place and community shape one another, and how stories contribute to the evolution of people and places.

While stories of self and place will provide a conceptual focus for our class, our primary goal will be engagement through speaking, writing and activist strategies that require excellence in communication skills.

The menu on the right side of this blog provides links to our syllabus, class schedule, attendance policy, directions for setting up your blog, and student blogs. We look forward to our work together this semester!
